Imran Khan’s PTI is betting everything on a political resurrection no one saw coming.

The party that once stormed Pakistan’s political scene with anti-corruption slogans now finds itself fragmented, jailed, and seemingly on the brink. Yet somehow, PTI continues to mobilize thousands. Recent rallies across major cities show the party’s grassroots hasn’t abandoned ship. Supporters chant slogans outside courts. Social media explodes with pro-PTI content daily.

The Impossible Gamble

“PTI’s strength lies in its ability to flip narratives,” says Dr. Amir Hassan, a Lahore-based political analyst. “Even behind bars, Imran Khan remains Pakistan’s most polarizing figure—for better or worse.” His imprisonment under various charges hasn’t killed the movement. If anything, it’s transformed him into a martyr figure for millions.

The real problem? Fragmentation. Party defections, leadership disputes, and unclear direction have weakened internal cohesion. Some senior members jumped ship. Others face their own legal troubles. Yet the party machinery keeps grinding forward, organizing underground networks and planning electoral strategies.

PTI’s 2024 election performance was disappointing on paper. But urban youth participation and social media reach tell a different story. Gen Z voters still see Imran as an anti-establishment symbol. That’s political gold in a country drowning in cynicism about traditional politics.

The government’s heavy hand—arrests, media blackouts, frozen accounts—creates a David-versus-Goliath narrative PTI weaponizes brilliantly. Every court case becomes a publicity stunt. Every speech from jail gets amplified exponentially online.

For Pakistan, a PTI resurrection means deeper political polarization. The country needs consensus-building and institutional stability. Instead, it’s getting theatrical opposition and vengeful governance. Neither builds democracies.
