Majalis commemorating Karbala martyrs start today after Maghrib prayers in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Daily sessions will run until midnight through the 5th of Muharram, then extend to 2am once mourning processions kick in on the 6th.
4,376 majalis, 757 processions across division
Rawalpindi Division is bracing for massive turnout. Six districts—Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Murree, and Jhelum—will host 4,376 majalis while 757 Zuljanah, Alam, Tazia, Mehndi and mourning processions will be taken out. That’s a lot of ground to cover, and security has been locked down accordingly.
Entry restrictions are in place. No vehicles or motorcycles allowed near imambargah roads. CCTV cameras installed everywhere. Security arrangements completed at all venues in the twin cities. The twin cities aren’t taking chances this year.
Majalis run nightly until the mourning processions begin. Once they do, expect streets blocked and extended hours. Question is whether the security holds when crowds swell.
